Onze organisatie:
The Willem de Kooning Academy is a leading international academy for bachelor and master programs in media, art, design, leisure and art education. The academy stands for groundbreaking art education, in which connections with social and educational partners give substance to an academy that constantly questions its own boundaries. In addition to art education, the academy also offers economic education focused on entrepreneurship in the cultural and creative industry.

The Willem de Kooning Academy is in transition. A new strategic agenda (Strategy 2025 and beyond) gives direction to the (re)development of activities in the coming years, including the curriculum. Leading those changes are three values (making matters, being present and sharing perspectives) and three movements (organizing transitions, sustaining pathways and supporting infrastructures).

The Academy is part of the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, strongly rooted in Rotterdam and at the same time internationally oriented. With approximately 400 colleagues, WdKA educates more than 2,500 students. Many of our students and colleagues have an international background.

About Fashion Design
At WdKA Fashion Design we aim to prepare our fashion design students for a future in the continuously changing professional field of fashion. Students are trained to work in the existing fashion system but are also encouraged to challenge and bring change to this system through practice and knowledge. We provide the hardware (design methods and technology) and the software (skills and attitude) to support this approach.

Fashion designers work from the perspective of a creative and critical vision on contemporary developments in fashion and society. Topics like new ethics, virtual fashion, sustainability, collaborative working, are named as most urgent by both our students as well as our professionally active team of tutors, and are all addressed in WdKA’s project-based education.

Professional diversity is key: we stimulate students in giving a new meaning to the profession, encourage independence in self-initiated projects and electives, and facilitate collaborations in interdisciplinary practices. We offer courses in both traditional and future fashion skills. Education in virtual prototyping, 3D creation and -visualization and presenting in the virtual realm, is embedded in the curriculum from year 1 onward. All aimed to facilitate our students with the necessary skills and knowledge to engage in a changing fashion industry. Next to traditional ways of presentation (such as catwalk shows) we offer space for alternative ways of presenting, allowing students to opt for a complete virtual graduation project, to installations, to film and many more..

Ben jij wie we zoeken?
To expand our team, we are looking for a tutor who can combine expertise in textiles and sustainability with fashion design and making skills. Sustainability —alongside Digital Fashion— is one of the two main pillars of the WdKA BA Fashion Design. We believe that future sustainable practices can only emerge through in-depth knowledge of materials, and awareness of upcoming legislation in the textile industry.

As a tutor, the challenge lies in not only teaching students this knowledge, but also connecting it to their creative process, thereby laying the foundation for more sustainable and future-proof practices within the fashion industry. Ideally, this also involves encouraging the integration of digital 3D techniques.

Next to this, we ask:
  • Proven experience in teaching Fashion Design and in the possession of a BKE (Basis Kwalificatie Examinering). Also having a BDB (Basiskwalificatie Didactische Bekwaamheid) is a big plus;
  • A strong foundation in textile knowledge —preferably with an industrial focus;
  • Up-to-date insights into sustainability and upcoming textile legislation;
  • Practical experience in fashion design practices;
  • Preferably: familiarity with digital 3D design technologies;
  • Favourably a master's degree in a relevant field;
  • Proficiency in both Dutch and English;
  • A valid EU work permit if you are from outside the EU.
