Do you want to be a pioneer in education in Computer Science in the Netherlands and contribute to a new English-taught bachelor’s programme? This is your opportunity!

Working at THUAS has it!

The Applied Computer Science programme is looking for experts in Embedded Programming, Cyber Security, and Artificial Intelligence who are passionate about educating young talent.

In short:
Program: IT&D
Location: Delft
Education level: Master
Hours per week: We are hiring for a total of 2.0 FTE. Individual appointments can be up to 1.0 FTE, with the possibility of part-time roles to allow for a combination with industry work or research at our Centre of Expertise Cyber Security.
Salary: between € 4.535,76 and € 6.359,47 gross per month based on a fulltime (40 hour) work week

The Programme
This three-year, English-taught bachelor’s programme is designed for Dutch students with a pre-university (VWO) diploma and international students with an equivalent qualification. It is offered at our Delft campus, located on the TU Delft grounds.

In the first year, students learn the fundamentals of programming in Python and C. They also gain knowledge in cyber security, (ethical) hacking, and data science. The effective use of AI is a recurring theme throughout the curriculum. In the second year, students choose a specialization: Embedded Engineering or Software Engineering. They also do an internship or a minor in the second year. The third year focuses on further specialization and includes a graduation project in a professional setting.

What will you do?
As a Lecturer in Applied Computer Science, you will contribute to both the development as well as the delivery of the curriculum.

The programme will launch in September 2025, and we are currently developing the curriculum. The focus of your taks will be helping the team shape the structure and content of the programme. Your responsibilities will include curriculum development, strengthening ties with industry, and facilitating the integration of education and research across various research groups at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. You will also be involved in student recruitment, coaching, and supervising project groups.

You are enthusiastic about sharing your knowledge (e.g., embedded programming in Python or C, cybersecurity, (responsible) AI, machine learning). This knowledge is applied directly in quarterly practice-based projects and is coordinated with colleagues to ensure a coherent and engaging programme. You will work in a small team of lecturers within a broader group of professionals from both academia and industry. Our team values transparency, integrity, enjoyment, results-oriented work, and flexibility.

Interested in research? Part of your appointment can be dedicated to conducting research within one of our research groups, such as the Centre of Expertise Cyber Security.

What do we expect from you?
We believe the most important thing is that you connect with the culture at our university of applied sciences and that you agree with our values, our way of working and our worldview.

We want you to be successful in your new role. Your CV shows that you have:

  • Proficiency in Python programming;
  • Experience with embedded programming in C;
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies;
  • Good command of English, both spoken and written (this concerns an English-taught professional bachelor's degree program);
  • A teaching qualification or willingness to obtain one (at our expense).

This is what you can expect from us
First and foremost, it's important that you are able to enjoy your work. In addition, we offer you:

  • A one-year employment contract per 1ste of August (D4), with the possibility of an extension for 0.6 – 1.0 FTE (24 – 40 hours per week);
  • A salary between € 4.535,76 and € 6.359,47 gross per month (lecturer - scale 11) for a full-time work week;
  • 8% vacation allowance;
  • Guaranteed end-of-year pay of 8,3%;
  • An extensive leave arrangement;
  • The choice between an NS Business card (2nd class) for your commutes or a kilometer based compensation.
