Working as a lecturer (docent in Dutch) in Ethics & Philosophy (0.6-1 FTE) at the Academy for AI, Games & Media (AGM) of Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) gives you the opportunity to shape the future generation of AI creators and users. You will teach, supervise, and develop course materials in the art of ethics and ethical frameworks in the AI, games and media industries. You will be working at our specialist, small-scale institute on our sustainable and high-tech campus near the city centre of Breda.

About this job
You will be teaching in the Creative Business (CB) bachelor’s programme and the Applied Data Science & AI bachelor’s programme of our Academy for AI, Games & Media (AGM). Ethics is an important issue in all programmes of the academy. Moreover, it is one of the key issues in the new Master AI Translator to be developed. Your job duties will involve teaching students the importance of ethics, as well as contributing to the development of the programmes and their digital learning environment. Some of your activities include:
  • Development, implementation, and teaching of course material and workshops in the field mentioned above at both bachelor’s and master’s levels;
  • Development of project briefs and assessment for students;
  • Coaching and supervising students in our Labs (the project environment for students), during placements and in graduation projects;
  • Since BUas considers applied research as one of its duties, participation in research projects (e.g., KreativeEU) can be part of the position as well.

As a lecturer (0.6-1FTE) at Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas), you will have the opportunity to guide and support smart and highly committed young individuals on their journey to excellence in the creative business industry. Your role includes providing academic advice and support to students, fostering their personal and professional development. Knowledge of the legal context of the industries is essential.

What do we offer?
  • The salary for this position amounts to a monthly minimum of € 4,535.76 and a monthly maximum of € 6,359.47 (gross amounts based on full-time employment);
  • This position is classified in scale 11 of the cao-hbo (collective labour agreement). Your official job title will be that of lecturer;
  • This position involves a one-year employment contract with the possibility of conversion into an indefinite employment contract;
  • Your commuting expenses will be fully reimbursed if you travel by public transport;
  • You will receive an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% in December and an 8% holiday allowance in May;
  • You will receive a contribution towards your health insurance costs;
  • You will build an attractive pension through the ABP pension fund;
  • You will also be awarded professional development hours every year and approximately 11 weeks of holiday entitlements in a full-time position;
  • You will be working at a top-ranked university of applied sciences on a green, sustainable campus near the city centre of Breda, with cutting-edge and innovative projects and technology including Data Science, AI, XR equipment, and experience measurement labs;

What do we ask of you?
  • You have a master’s degree or PhD in a relevant field (e.g., ethics or philosophy);
  • You have comprehensive knowledge of ethics and ethical frameworks in the AI, games and media industries. Knowledge of the philosophy of technology is a plus;
  • You preferably have experience as a lecturer, developer, manager, or consultant are familiar with modern educational views;
  • You have teaching experience or are willing to undertake didactic training;
  • You will be working in an international and intercultural setting. Therefore, having excellent verbal and written communication skills in English is a necessity.
