You will have a leading role within the Aviation Academy in the area of Aviation Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul. You will strengthen the links between applied research, the educational programs and our extensive industry network. You will be responsible for (inter)national research projects, formulate (international) research proposals, secure (international) grants, write scientific and professional publications and, as a member of the faculty of Technology, make an active contribution to the roadmap of the Aviation Academy and its implementation. The research is conducted by undergraduate, master and doctoral students, lecturers, and employees from participating companies. Research activities and the lecturing will take approximately half of the available time. You will be responsible for the development of the undergraduate and master’s curriculum in the area of Aviation Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul to ensure that our curriculum meets industry standards. You will improve the quality of the educational program, strengthen the cohesion in the curriculum and promote educational innovation within the educational program. You will also deliver classes and workshops and support students in their study process. Hierarchically and for educational tasks, the associate professor will report to the Director of Education of the Aviation Academy. For all research related tasks, the associate professor reports to the Professor of Aviation Engineering.

Since its inception in 2009, the Aviation Academy has been addressing real-world problems in the aviation sector, with the goal of improving and innovating professional practice. We combine excellent education at the undergraduate (bachelor) level with applied research in the fields of: Human Factors and Safety, MRO process optimization, MRO advanced technologies and aviation capacity. We are developing master’s programs to be launched in 2017, offer master classes for professionals, and conduct contract research. Our energetic staff (currently amounting to 85 persons) includes full professors, associate and assistant professors, post-docs, lecturers and PhD candidates (the latter in collaboration with an academic university). Most of our staff has worked or is still working in aviation. We have been awarded the Excellence in Aviation Education Award 2014 by the Dutch aviation industry, and our students quite regularly are awarded prizes and awards. The School of Sports and Nutrition
The School of Sports and Nutrition is one of the crown jewels of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and hosts three educational programmes: Physical Education, Sport Studies and Nutrition & Dietetics. All three are known for their solid education, practice based research, inspiring teachers, quality and culture. The school hosts a centre for applied research with three main research programmes.
What we are looking for
You are a MRO professional with a combination of academic experience (with doctorate or in the final stages of achieving one) and industry experience (preferably including aviation) for the position of associate professor. We are looking for a MRO generalist with a view on the development of the industrial and/or aviation sector. You have several years of working experience, both in industry and within a research institution, and have developed your own network within the industry. You also have excellent verbal and written skills in English. Your doctoral dissertation is relevant to research in the Maintenance Repair and Overhaul domain.
What we offer
Remuneration for the position of Senior Lecturer-researcher 2 (“Hogeschool hoofddocent”)will be according to wage scale 13 (HBO CAO - Collective Labor Agreement for Bachelor-level Education). The maximum salary is € 5.750,- gross per month for a full appointment and the actual salary depends on qualifications and experience.

Initially this is a temporary appointment for one year. Extension of the appointment after one year is foreseen but may depend on proven suitability, staff capacity levels and the influx of new students.
