The Lecturer in Design Literacy at the Master’s programme in Digital Design entails two tasks:
1. Lecturer in Design Literacy
We are looking for a colleague with a strong expertise in teaching design processes and with a critical perspective on Design thinking. The Lecturer in Design Literacy is a central figure of the Master’s programme and is responsible for:
- teaching the foundational course “Design Literacy”;
- revising/updating the syllabus for Design Literacy;
- leading and coordinating the Literacy track, e.g. organizing intensive workshops, inviting guest-speakers, and establishing and maintaining international connections;
- promoting students’ work outside the programme, e.g. writing and publishing research papers with students and colleagues, or actively attending professional networking events;
- contributing to the public communications of the programme with regular blog posts on http://masterdigitaldesign.com, as well as facilitating students’ contributions;
- participating in students’ assessments and admissions.
2. Support Lecturer for Design Research
We are looking for a Support Lecturer for Design Research who will work closely together with the other lecturers in the Master’s programme - especially with the Lecturer in Design Research. At the moment, the Design Research course spans across the three approaches to constructive design research (Lab, Field, and Showroom), and we are looking for an enthusiastic colleague with expertise in quantitative and/or qualitative design research. The primary functions of the Support Lecturer for Design Research are:
- support the core lecturer in Design Research in formative and summative assessments;
- develop original lessons plans and teach independently in the Research track (e.g. intensive workshops, field-sessions).

The degree programme
The Master’s programme in Digital Design brings together practice, research, and technological innovation. This 1-year full time curriculum combines a rigorous background in design research (‘Research through Design’, ‘Action Research’) with real-world projects from industry partners carried out in a studio setting. It stems from a need to educate a new breed of digital designers: internationally-minded professionals inspired by an integrated perspective on people, planet, and profit. The programme centres around four main areas of expertise: Literacy, Research, Creation, and Strategy. It is completely taught in English to a multicultural cohort of 24 students chosen yearly through a rigorous selection.
The M.Sc. Digital Design is an initiative of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences in cooperation with nine leading Dutch digital agencies (ACHTUNG!, BBDO Amsterdam, DDB Tribal, Dept (TamTam), Fabrique, MediaMonks, Mirabeau, Momkai, and Woedend!). It works with a network of partners (World Wildlife Fund (WWF), VodafoneZiggo, the Royal Dutch Touring Club ANWB, Informaat, the Municipality of Amsterdam, and Philips Design, among others) which provide real-life briefings to the students.
