ArtEZ University of the Arts
Excellence, innovation, research and cooperation are key terms at ArtEZ. Each year ArtEZ trains some 3,000 ambitious, talented students in the visual arts, dance, fashion, theatre, music, architecture, art education and design. A great many bachelor’s and master’s courses are of the highest quality and are held in regard at national and international level. Alumni hold leading positions in careers in the areas of culture, society and economics. ArtEZ sees research as a key to developing new knowledge for the sector and our education. Our professorships are working at the cutting edge of interaction between research, education and professional practice. The ArtEZ School of Music provides music education at bachelor’s and master’s level in classical music, jazz, music therapy, pop, music production and music education in Arnhem, Enschede and Zwolle. The School is one of the largest and most comprehensive schools of music in the Netherlands, with in excess of 800 students and 250 (often) renowned lecturers. In addition to music, ArtEZ offers education in the fields of the visual arts, fashion, design, architecture, dance and theatre. This wide-ranging array of courses means there is ample room for transdisciplinary cooperation.
The Graduate School at ArtEZ is in the process of implementing a structural prototype that seeks to build an identity, a cohesive research vision, and a strategic development of the different research driven Masters Courses that is oriented towards the future. As a part of this projected growth the graduate school is setting out on multiple trajectories of building a collective research vision, developing the intellectual and material infrastructure for the vision to grow, develop strategies for giving ownership to the various stakeholders, reorganising the functioning and structure of our programmes, and developing strategies that implement the values of diversity, internationalisation, and resilience in the Graduate School. We additionally intend the Graduate School, not to be a separated entity but as a catalysing agent that consciously and proactively connects with the undergraduate and graduate classrooms and builds a strong platform of research and learning for students with different interests and ambitions within the scope of art and design for the future.
Just like the other master’s courses and professorships, the master’s in music therapy forms part of the Graduate School.
