You will head up the team of teaching staff, holding ultimate responsibility for the quality of the education. You will be continuously developing the course profile and pedagogical excellence within the mission of the academy together with the teaching team. And you will be constructing the academy’s profile together with the staff (course leaders of other majors, practice coordinators, supportive teams and the leadership).
You have a strong focus on effective and efficient organization, for students projects (all education is organized through integrated project based learning), presentation activities, field trips, collaborations or external projects.
Next leading the major Graphic Design, you play a key role within the larger organization through an active participation in the Bachelor Course Leader platforms and in the collaborative quality enhancement activities, together with dedicated supportive teams.
To summarize: you get joy out of organizing ‘investigation and exploration’ through education!
Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences is a dynamic knowledge institute for higher professional education.
Over 30,000 students and around 3,000 members of staff are pursuing their career here - the typical Rotterdam way: through our Rotterdam Educational Model we provide practice-focused, well-considered, flexible education that allows all of our students and staff to play an important role in real, innovative projects. We teach them how to play that role and provide them with the necessary tools: an expert view, a lot of nerve, and a result-focused approach.
Is it a…? Is it an attitude? Is it a tradition? Is it a craft? Is it a skill? Is it a tool? Is it a concept? Is it a framework? Is it a landscape? Is it a medium? Is it about storytelling? Is it visual? Is it about communication? Is it critical? Is it about connecting? Is it contextual? Yes! It’s Graphic Design (at) WdKA!
The Graphic Design Major is one of the nine majors within the Design Program. The (Design) Majors are one of three core elements of the curriculum of all Art, Design and Art Education programs. Next to the Majors the key profiling elements are the Stations (interdisciplinary workshop) and especially the Practices (Autonomous, Social and Commercial). The Practices embody the continuous investigation on contemporary and future focused Art & Design positions within society and the industry.
This way, Graphic Design educates a new generation of designers who are engaged, critical, curious and able to relate to the public and clients from an artistic and independent point of view. We educate makers who – by exploring the responsibility and power of graphic design – are able to relate to social, cultural, political, commercial and technological issues in contemporary society.
As Course Leader you share the mission of the Willem de Kooning Academy to investigate the above with the Major Graphic Design. You are working in the field of graphic design and you share with us a contemporary perspective on the role of visual communication within society. You have the requisite leadership skills, experience in higher art education, and you identify with the need to embrace a continuous focus on the development of new pedagogical approaches.
You have a Bachelor Graphic Design and relevant Master, preferably with a pedagogical degree or training.
Willem de Kooning Academy/Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences (Hogeschool Rotterdam) offers you a temporary contract as a principal lecturer, for a role equivalent to 0.6 FTE. Depending on performance, the contract may be renewed. The salary range is HBO-CAO grade 11/12 (€3,392.46 minimum and €5,301.29 maximum per month) for fulltime employment, exclusive of 8% holiday pay and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. Our fringe benefits include excellent training facilities and an attractive pension scheme.
